Snow Survival 2012
Perinteinen Snow Survival -tapahtuma järjestetään jälleen tiistaina 6.3. Jyväsjärven jäällä yhdessä JYY:n ja JAMKO:n Snowdayn kanssa!
JARU ry:n Snow Survival on unohtumaton kokemus, jossa osallistujat rakentavat päivän aikana lumimajat, lumikammit, ja halukkaat voivat yöpyä luomuksissaan seuraavan yön. Harjoitus alkaa aamulla klo 9 ja päättyy seuraavana aamuna. Ammattitaitoiset järjestäjät takaavat, että kaikki sujuu hyvin ja turvallisesti. Kovissakin olosuhteissa lämpötila lumikammien sisällä nousee nollan tuntumaan ja armeijan talvimakuupussit pitävät nukkujat lämpiminä.
Tapahtuman osallistumismaksu on jarulaisille 10 euroa ja muille 15 euroa. Maksulla katetaan ruoka- ja saunakulut, vakuutukset ja makuupussien ja makuualustojen vuokra. Mukaan on tulossa ulkomaalaisia opiskelijoita, joten samalla tarjotaan myös suomalaisille opiskelijoille mahdollisuutta kansainvälistyä! Lisäksi reserviläiset tienaavat kurssista yhden kertausharjoitusvuorokauden.

Paikalle voi tulla myös vain piipahtamaan, auttamaan lumimajojen rakentamisessa tai ihmettelemään että mitä oikein teemme.

The traditional Snow Survival -event is being held on Wednesday the 6th of March on the icy plains of Jyväsjärvi together with the JYY and JAMKO Snowday!
Snow Survival by Jaru ry is an unforgettable event where the participants build igloo-like snow shelters with their own hands. The bravest may even spend the following night in their creations! Our experts make sure that everything goes smoothly and safely. Even in rough weather, the temperature inside igloo will rise above 0 and all the many exchange students participating in the previous years have made it to the morning 100% alive.
The participation fee for this priceless experience is 15 euro and includes a dinner in the evening, a sauna, insurance and the opportunity to use a military grade sleeping bag and a camping mattress. This is the ultimate Nordic experience for all the exchange students out there – don’t miss it!

What is Snow Survival?
The big picture is that we build “igloos” of snow and then we sleep in them the next night. The day begins at about 9 am when we start to pile up the snow. We should have some kind of figure of the people who are spending the night in igloos, so we can build enough of them. One igloo accommodates three or four people. The snow piles should be high enough at midday, and the Survivors can take a break and have a lunch.
While people are eating the snow freezes a little and after couple of hours we can start digging a hole to the igloo. The entrance cave has to be small, but the interior must be dug big enough for four people. This should take about three hours. When the igloo is done, the Survivors relax in a sauna and enjoy snacks. After the sauna we head back to Jyväsjärvi to sit around a camp fire and roast some sausages. When the night falls we go to igloos and sleep peacefully until morning. The temperature in the igloo rises up to 0 degrees C because of peoples body heat, so it’ll be almost too warm for a military sleeping bag!
In previous years there has been approx. 20 people sleeping in the igloos. The weather has been pretty rough sometimes, really windy and -25 degrees C! Still everyone has been alive in the morning and have said that they had the time of their lives and will never forget it! Many people have also been helping to build the igloos at day time, but haven’t stayed overnight.
